Are we getting a TJ Monterde and 10cm collab soon?

by Joanna Deala

FILIPINO fans are looking forward to seeing OPM singer TJ Monterde and singer Kwon Jeong-yeol of South Korean act 10cm work together on a project after the latter expressed his desire to collaborate with the Filipino singer-songwriter.

Kwon revealed this in a vlog by Korean content creator Jessica Lee titled “Introducing Filipino Boodle Fight to Korean Artist 10CM!” Boodle fight uses the traditional kamayan style where Filipinos eat using only their clean, bare hands. The Korean singer tried inasal and atsara, among others.

In the vlog, Kwon shared his thoughts about Original Pinoy Music (OPM), as well as artists with Filipino heritage like American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. Lee then asked the Korean singer-songwriter if there was a Filipino artist that he was interested in, and Kwon mentioned Monterde and 22-year-old singer-songwriter Zack Tabudlo.

“It seems like there are many aspects that resonate with me, and I feel the desire to try something together,” he said.

Kwon said that he wants to join forces with Monterde and Tabudlo and stressed that he wants to collaborate with Monterde “as soon as possible.”

“He has a very professional and acoustic feel and it seems like there are many aspects that resonate with me,” he said.

The Korean singer even treated fans with song covers of Monterde’s “Palagi” and Tabudlo’s “Pano.”

Monterde reacted positively to Kwon’s proposal and shared that he has been listening to 10cm since 2017.

“In fact, siya ang unang unang Korean artist na na-hook akong pakinggan (alam ng fans ko to), matagal na kong naka-follow sa kanya sa IG, as in nagcocomment pa ko sa mga stories niya dati, ganun,” the Filipino singer said.

That’s why being asked for a collaboration by 10cm is a big deal for him.

Sobrang laki sakin nito, hindi ‘to basta bastang artist lang, isa sya sa impluwensiya ko. Tapos kinanta nya yung kanta ko, gusto nya kong makatrabaho,” he said.

He added, “Lord, naniniwala talaga ako, IKAW ‘TO. WALANG IBA.”

Kwon and Monterde met each other last month when the latter flew to South Korea to watch 10cm’s concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.

In the comments section, Monterde’s fans congratulated the singer and said they were excited about the possible collaboration between the two artists.

“So excited for you guys to collaborate. Huhu. two of my beloved artists! Ipapanalangin natin tong collab na ‘to soon!” one netizen said.

Another social media user acknowledged the Korean artist’s singing skills.

Deserv mo toh lods. Napanuod ko yung vlog ni Jessica Lee and minention ka dun. Huhu can’t wait for your collab kahit di ako fan ni 10cm but his voice thou,” she said.

10cm is behind the heart-tugging original soundtracks of several hot K-drama series, including “Crash Landing On You,” “Our Beloved Summer,” and “Goblin.”

Monterde, on the other hand, is also known for his heartfelt and relatable songs such as “Dating Tayo,” “Mahika,” “Ikaw at Ako” and “Tulad Mo.”
