3 tips from local content creators to help you kickstart your own channel

by Joyce Remo

Content creation is the process of producing material or information in various forms such as written, visual, or audio formats.

The goal of content creation is to create content that is engaging, informative, entertaining, and valuable to the target audience.

Because of the availability of the internet, more people are leaning into consuming social media content produced by creators and influencers around the world.

In a survey conducted by international telecommunications company Telenor Asia, the Philippines is among the eight countries in South and Southeast Asia who appreciates the value of engagement and the “always-on” life on the internet and social media.

Further, Filipinos ranked first among other countries in terms of following social media influencers and experts, accounting to 46 percent, according to the 2023 Global Digital Report by Meltwater and We Are Social.

Republicasia asked some Filipino content creators present during the Lead Like a Pro workshop, partnered with iAcademy and powered by KUMU, for some tips to succeed in this continuously evolving field.

Be authentic

Now serving on multiple platforms, Lou Sanchez started making beauty, skincare, and makeup content on Youtube in 2017. She transitioned to creating lifestyle and other daily relatable vlog content on Instagram and TikTok because of the ever-changing social media landscape.

Sanchez said she doesn’t want to limit herself to the lifestyle category, so she tries to produce content on whatever comes to mind.

“I like to do a lot of things and gusto ko s’yang ivideo,” she told republicasia.

Her content was mainly influenced by what viewers want to see from her.

When creating social media content, Sanchez said authenticity remains the best and easiest technique to gain viewers and followers.

She emphasized that one has to have the courage to continue making content and to not hold back from the things they want to do with their craft.

“Kapag nagpa-plan ka kasi ng iko-content mo, nag-ooverthink ka, marami kang doubts, so doon ka nags-start mag-hold back,” she said. “So for me, gawin mo lang s’ya, just do it. Palakasan lang ng loob.”

Learn from industry experts

Of course, there will be a time when content creation becomes a person’s career and source of income. When this opportunity knocks on your door, Sanchez said it is best to seek advice from creators who have been in the industry for a long time.

This will help newbies learn the tricks of the trade, she said.

Sanchez also underscored the importance of hiring a handler to help them with the content and communicating with brands and other sponsors.

Don’t mind the viewers

Kerwin King embarked on his content creation journey eight years ago by accident.

In an interview with republicasia, the “Twitter King” said he started out by posting things that he wanted to share until several brands began to notice. They eventually reached out for partnerships and collaborations.

From doing artworks, King is now immersed in the entertainment industry, creating content for various social media platforms and doing some acting and singing gigs with ABS-CBN.

King has this unique way of content creation. He plans different content for different social media platforms, making sure he is delivering distinct materials per avenue.

For instance, he uploads visuals on Instagram, tweets his thoughts on Twitter, and shows his unexplored side and experiments on his creativity on TikTok.

When starting a content creation stint, King said aspiring creators should never stop posting relatable content.

“The internet is accessible to almost everyone, so you just have to keep creating content,” he told republicasia.

He further said that content creating aspirants should not look into the number of people who view their content, but rather focus on passion for content creation.

“What I can suggest is that, just keep posting relatable content, don’t mind the views if there’s just two or three. As long as you love creating videos, creating content, that will make you grow as an individual and a content creator,” he said.
