Pura Luka Vega appears at QC Prosecutor’s Office to face raps

PURA LUKA VEGA went to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday to face the charges brought against her by leaders of some Christian churches due to her controversial Ama Namin drag performance.

She shared on social media a photo of her holding a copy of a motion, whose details are not immediately available.

”Laban lang. When people ask for pictures, I entertain them. Masaya makinig at makipagkwentuhan sa mga tao para magkaunawaan. I attend in drag to normalize the art of drag in public spaces as well as educate and share queer experiences and practices,” she said on Instagram.

”I am also very pleased that the prosecutor has asked for my pronouns.”

She also borrowed a quote from the late American poet Maya Angelou to remind herself to be kind amid challenges.

Pending before the QC Prosecutor’s Office is the complaint for violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes immoral doctrines, obscene publications, and exhibitions, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act. The complaint was filed by the Philippines for Jesus Movement.

A similar complaint was filed by a group of Black Nazarene devotees at the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.

Reports said the 33-year-old drag artist skipped the preliminary investigation hearing on Friday for this complaint.

Pura Luka Vega received backlash in July over a viral video that showed her singing and dancing to the remix version of Ama Namin while dressed as Jesus Christ.

Her detractors claim that what she did was disrespectful to Christianity.

Unbothered by the criticism, Pura Luka Vega recently reiterated that “drag is not a crime.”
