WE ARE down to the third week of June and the celebrations for this month continue. Filipinos recently marked the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence last Wednesday, which coincided with the country’s celebration of Pride Month.

Today, June 16, there is another big occasion that the whole country is celebrating: Father’s Day.

Celebrated every third Sunday of June, Father’s Day is dedicated to honoring incredible individuals in our lives–our fathers, grandfathers, and all father figures–who have become one of our ultimate sources of strength and inspiration.

Father’s Day has become extra special this year, particularly for these Filipino personalities who have welcomed or are expecting their first child.

Zanjoe Marudo

Actress Ria Atayde gave a special gift to her husband, Zanjoe Marudo, on Father’s Day, as she confirmed that they are expecting their first child.

Atayde shared this in an Instagram post on Sunday, alongside photos of them together on a beach. The actress’ baby bump was shown in the pictures.

“To the dad you already are and the dad I know you’ll be,” said Atayde, stressing that she’s excited to enter the next chapter with him as a first-time parent.

“Happy first Father’s Day!” she greeted Marudo.

Marudo and Atayde tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Quezon City on March 23, 2024. Their wedding was attended by their families and friends from the entertainment industry.

Benedict Cua

Last month, celebrity vlogger Benedict Cua trended on social media after he surprised netizens with the news that he is now a father.

Cua shared this milestone in a vlog he uploaded on YouTube, revealing why he was inactive in the online community for almost two months.

He said he had the “best two months” in his life when he welcomed his son, Aleck, whom he had waited for many years. He also shared how he has become a doting father to his firstborn and said he wanted to “immortalize” every moment he has with his son.

Rambo Nuñez

Businessman Rambo Nuñez and his wife, actress Maja Salvador, welcomed their first child earlier this month.

The actress shared their first family photo on Instagram, showing Nuñez carrying a baby carrier as they leave the hospital. Her caption read, “Starting our parenthood journey.”

Salvador gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Maria.

On Sunday, Nuñez a photo of him carrying her daughter’s baby carrier from the hospital and said, “The road to fatherhood has begun.”

The couple held their wedding ceremony in Bali, Indonesia in July 2023. They first had a civil union at the Grand Hyatt Manila on Valentine’s Day last year before they went to Indonesia.

Jeron Teng

Basketball player Jeron Teng announced on June 2 that he and his wife, Jeanine Tsoi, would soon welcome the newest addition to their family.

San Miguel Beermen forward and former De La Salle University star confirmed this on Instagram, sharing a photo of him holding his wife’s baby bump.

“And then there were three,” said Teng.

On Father’s Day, Tsoi shared a few snaps from their firstborn’s gender reveal party, revealing that they are expecting a baby girl. She expressed in the caption how excited they are to “give the world” to their child and shower her with love.

Teng and Tsoi got married in October 2023.

Ninong Ry

Celebrity chef Ninony Ry, whose real name is Ryan Morales Reyes, also entered fatherhood this year when he welcomed his first baby with his non-showbiz partner.

He introduced his child, Rue, to the online world through an Instagram post on May 20.

He also shared a video of him adoring his child.

The celebrity chef honored all dads and father figures through a YouTube vlog, sharing a recipe he learned from his father. He showed how he cooked Kilawin, a popular Filipino appetizer dish,  consisting of chopped meats, poultry, seafood, or vegetables. It is usually eaten as a snack during alcohol-drinking sessions.

Ninong Ry also encouraged his viewers to try cooking for their dads on Father’s Day.
