Parokya ni Edgar musical reveals title, opens casting call

THE title of the upcoming musical based on the discography of the ‘90s OPM band Parokya ni Edgar was something that some fans did not expect and can hardly pronounce.

Theater goers were previously offered a chance to attend a special preview of the musical by guessing the show’s title correctly.

On Monday, Newport World Resorts (NWR) Musical unveiled the musical’s title in a video, featuring the rock band’s frontman Chito Miranda.

The title: Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical

“Abangan niyo [sa] 2024,” Miranda said.

Buruguduystunstugudunstuy is the name of the band’s sophomore album with 21 songs, released in 1997.

It produced several of the band’s top hits, including Harana, Please Don’t Touch My Birdie, and Okatokat.

NWR Musical has yet to announce the 90 winners who guessed the title of the musical correctly in its Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts. 30 winners will be chosen from each platform.

Meanwhile, the storyline of the musical is still under wraps, but NWR Musical has opened its casting call for individuals who want to be part of the show.

“You think it’s almost over, but it’s only on the rise!” it said.

Interested applicants aged 18 to 50 years old are welcome to audition by submitting videos of their acting, singing, and dance performances.

They must sing any Parokya ni Edgar song in 16 bars. Entries must be sent via email to PNE2024@gmail.com until October 1.

“Need mong career-in ang pagkanta ng any Parokya Ni Edgar song in 16 bars dahil hindi pwedeng trip-trip lang as we are looking for the next theater actors who will make the #Buruguduystunstugudunstuy characters come into life,” NWR said.

Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical comes after the successful run of the Ang Huling El Bimbo (AHEB) musical, which was inspired by the songs of the ‘90s alternative rock band Eraserheads.

AHEB musical centered on three college schoolmates and roommates, whose friendship was tested following a tragedy involving their other friend named Joy.

The 2018 musical had its outstanding finale last July 23, where its cast teased the upcoming Parokya ni Edgar musical.

Showtime and ticket prices for the 2024 musical are yet to be announced.
