Maki tops Billboard PH’s ‘Hot 100,’ ‘Top PH Songs’ charts

R&B singer Maki has reached another milestone in his music career: becoming the first Filipino act to reach the number one spot on Billboard Philippines’ “Hot 100” chart.

The music and entertainment magazine released its first official “Hot 100” chart, dated July 6, with Maki’s hit single “Dilaw” topping the list.

Citing data collected by Luminate, Billboard Philippines reported that the song racked up over 3.8 million streams this week.

Written by Maki and Nameless Kids’ vocalist Nhiko Sabiniano, “Dilaw” narrates Maki’s journey of finding his “Dilaw,” or the person that gives joy and hope in his life. It was released in March 2024, along with its music video that featured Maloi Ricalde of “Nation’s Girl Group” BINI.

Currently, the music video has over nine million views since its release on the YouTube channel of Tarsier Records, Maki’s label.

On X (formerly Twitter), the singer-songwriter dedicated his win to all Original Pinoy Music (OPM) artists, stressing that the number one spot in the chart was only a “bonus” for him.

“I’m just so thrilled and glad that opm is thriving, very much alive, and that I get to share my part as an artist in this generation of Filipino music,” he said.

In another post, he also thanked everyone who supported Philippine music.

Meanwhile, P-pop girl group BINI dominated the “Hot 100,” occupying four slots in the Top 10 of the chart.

Landing on the second spot is BINI’s viral song “Salamin, Salamin,” “Pantropiko” at number four, “Karera” at number seven, and “Lagi” at number nine. These four songs were part of the group’s debut extended play (EP) “Talaarawan,” released in March 2024.

OPM singer TJ Monterde is also part of the list, with his song “Palagi” landing on the 10th spot.

“Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Birds Of A Feather” by Billie Eilish snatched the third and fifth spots, respectively.

No. 1 on ‘Top PH Songs’

“Dilaw” is also leading Billboard Philippines’ “Top Philippine Songs” chart, dated July 6.

It was followed by BINI’s “Salamin, Salamin,” “Pantropiko” at number three, “Karera” at number four,” and “Lagi” at number five.

Monterde’s “Palagi” took the sixth spot, followed by Hev Abi’s “Walang Alam” at number seven, gins&melodies and Hev Abi’s “Babaero” at number eight, and Hev Abi and Flow G’s “Burgis” at number nine.

BINI’s “Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi” held the 10th spot.

Before this, “Dilaw” was featured in the “World Wide Cover” segment of the South Korean web series 1theK on YouTube and performed by K-pop boy group BLITZERS.
