THE name Anna Delvey has been making headlines in the country since the weekend after police arrested a woman named Mikaela Veronica Cabrera.
Anna Delvey is a character from the Netflix film titled “Inventing Anna.” The story follows the scam perpetrated by Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin. From 2013 to 2017, con artist and fraudster Delvey gained entry to the elite New York social and art communities by pretending to be a wealthy heiress.
But why was Anna Delvey dragged in Cabrera’s case?
Cabrera, 26, had tricked several rich clients to get money from them. These include men she matched with on dating sites and who she asked for help to continue her “dying business,” as per reports. This was the reason behind Cabrera was touted as the country’s Anna Delvey.
According to reports by several news outlets, clients lent Cabrera a huge amount of money to finance her company known as AUMA Fashion Styling Firm. But when time came for her to pay them back, she issued a blank check.
Inquirer.net, quoting an exclusive source, reported that Cabrera paid in checks, but when clients verified through the bank, they found out that the accounts were already closed
Cases were subsequently filed against Cabrera and a warrant issued for her arrest. She was nabbed in a condominium in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
Cabrera was charged with violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 2, also known as the “Anti-Bouncing Check Law.”
The Facebook page “Mikaela Veronica Sese Cabrera A Scammer” surfaced following Cabrera’s arrest.
According to the page, Cabrera has already “victimized lots of people” with her scheme using AUMA Fashion Styling Firm.
The Instagram account of the fashion agency remains searchable, but as of writing, it has been placed on private mode.
Google search results on the fashion firm would direct to various stories featuring the launch of the agency.
AUMA was founded in 2017 as a clothing company, and it has since evolved into a fashion styling agency when it started providing styling services to the public in September 2019.
The aim of the agency, as per Cabrera, who is the founder and head stylist, is to “be a conduit for people to discover themselves through clothes.
