What's Happening?

Where to migrate aside from the US?

“AS much as I want to stay, I really want to give my family a bright future ahead.”

This is the only reason why the 24-year-old Imarie Navarro, an information technology support employee at a Business Process Outsourcing company in Makati City, aims to leave the country.

Aside from being the breadwinner, the soaring prices of goods and services made her think of applying for better opportunities outside the country, particularly in the United States.

Based on the US Department of State – International Migration report, the number of immigrants living in the United States surpasses that of any other nation by over a million every year, including those who come as refugees, asylum seekers, and permanent legal residents.

According to her, as much as she likes to stay and be with her family, she has to sacrifice to take her family out of poverty.

“I love my life here in the Philippines, but I want to give my family a better living condition because they sacrificed a lot to lead me where I am now,” said Navarro.

Considering the cost of living in the US and the amount she has to spend in processing her travel documents, Navarro said her American dream will remain a dream – at least for now.

Do you want to live abroad, too? Here are the countries to consider:

According to a Where Can I Live report, Programs for skilled migration provide a more accessible route. Some nations have open-door immigration measures to help their economy and society by filling the skills gap in their nation. If your experience is acceptable, skilled migration may be the quickest route to obtaining a work permit.

Here are some of the countries with in-demand list of occupations:

  • Austria: Black topper, roofer, mechanical engineer, train driver.
  • Australia: Aeronautical engineer, acupuncturist, electrician, and dressmaker.

  • France
  • Ireland
  • Mauritius

These countries also offer government support, funding, access to investors and help with markets, the report said.
