VETERAN actor Robert Arevalo – Roberto Francisco Ylagan in real life – joined the ranks of other actors and actresses who had left the entertainment industry after his passing on Thursday. He was 85.
His daughter Anna Ylagan shared the news of her father’s passing on Facebook.
“Today is the day that the Lord has chosen to take our dearest Papa home. Robert Francisco Ylagan, a.k.a. Robert Arevalo, peacefully passed away today at 10:17am, Aug. 10, 2023 due to complications from Parkinsonism. Praise God for His mercy and grace. We are grateful that He has given us the best Papa one can ever wish for,” she wrote.
She said that while they may be in sorrow over the passing of their father, they found solace over the thought that he is now in heaven.
“Thank you for loving us the way you did, Pa. Although our hearts are broken, we are comforted by God’s promise that He has a place reserved for you in His kingdom in Heaven where all of us who believe in His son, Jesus, will one day reunite,” she added.
The wake of the actor will take place this weekend after his cremation at Arlington Chapels, Araneta Avenue.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Perez and their daughters Anna and Gina, along with their families.
Arevalo was one of the most popular stars in the Philippine entertainment industry when he started his career in the 1960s as a drama actor at Premiere Productions.
During the 1960s, his first major screen debut was in the movie Huwag Mo Akong Limutin that came out in the same year.
His noteworthy performances include Ang Daigdig ng mga Api in 1965, Sa Aking Mga Kamay in 1996, and The Healing in 2012.
He also played various roles in television shows such as Valiente, Indio, and his very last TV credit, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano in 2018.
Arevalo also established his name in the industry after securing the FAMAS Awards for Best Actor in Ang Daigdig ng mga Api. He also earned the title of Best Supporting Actor in Lino Brocka’s Ama, Bakit mo ako pinabayaan? during the Metro Manila Film Festival.
He was also named with the Film Academy of the Philippines Awards for Best Supporting Actor in Pangako ng Kahapon in 1994 by Joel Lamangan.
Aside from acting, his talent for directing was also recognized after receiving Gawad Urian Trophy for Best Screenplay in Hubad na Bayani in 1997. #
