Taylor Swift fails to win Grammy’s song of the year for the 6th time

by Joyce Remo

FOR all her Grammy wins, Taylor Swift still does not have a Song of the Year award.

Swift’s hit break-up single All Too Well 10 Minute Version (From The Vault) failed to win the Song of the Year title at the 65th Grammy Awards, losing out to Bonnie Raitt’s Just Like That.

This is the sixth time that Swift, who has 12 Grammys to her name, lost  in the said category.

In 2010, Swift’s You Belong With Me lost the trophy to Lady A’s country song Need You Now. Meanwhile, her controversial Shake It Off lost the same title to her friend and British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.

While fans hoped the country-turned-pop singer would redeem herself with the top-charting Blank Space, Adele’s alternative indie pop Hello, one of the British singer’s record-breaking songs, denied Swift a Song of the Year Grammy the following year.

In 2020, Swift was once again nominated for song of the year with the title track for her seventh studio album, Lover. However, the tandem of American siblings Billie Eilish and FINNEAS stole the award with the song bad guy.

The first track from Swift’s surprise album folklore was shortlisted in the Grammys but the indie, soft rock cardigan, unfortunately, did not win Swift the most-coveted award.

At least the video won

While the Pennsylvania-born singer faltered in winning this year’s Song of the Year award, she was able to take home Best Music Video for All Too Well: The Short Film.

Swift bested prominent music icons to own the trophy, including Adele, BTS, Doja Cat, Harry Styles, and Kendrick Lamar.

This is Swift’s 12th Grammy since she launched her career in 2002.

She was also nominated for two other awards such as Best Country Song for I Bet You Think About Me and the Best Song Written for Visual Media for Carolina.

In a tweet, Swift shared her reaction upon being presented with the award, saying she was blown away and thanked fans for all the support they have given her.

“I can’t put into words what this means to me,” Swift wrote. “For the @RecordingAcad and my peers to acknowledge me as a director, and in doing so, acknowledge my work to try and reclaim my music.”
