SOUTH Korean actress Song Hye-kyo trended on Twitter after the announcement of her ex-husband Song Joong-ki’s blossoming relationship with a British woman.
Some Twitter users sympathize with Hye-kyo, mentioning the divorce of the Song-Song couple in July 2019, two years after exchanging vows.
However, fans of the international superstar defended the actress by saying that the public should not feel sorry for Hye-kyo, citing one of her interviews, where she said she never turns back into a relationship when it’s over.
“I devote myself fully to a relationship and never turn back when it is over,” Hye-kyo said in a W Korea interview. “If it doesn’t work out, nevertheless (I devoted myself to it), it’s just a relationship that will never work.”
Hye-kyo and Joong-ki met during the set for hit Korean drama Descendants of the Sun in 2016. The two fell in love with each other and announced their relationship in the same year.
In 2017, the former couple released a joint statement to announce their wedding in October. Two years later, Joong-ki filed a petition to divorce Hye-kyo in June 2019 and the court finalized their split a month later.
Song Joong-ki’s dating announcement
On December 26, Song Jong-ki’s agency HighZium Studio confirmed that the actor was dating a woman. However, they did not reveal her identity, including her name, age, and nationality, in respect of the couple’s privacy.
“Song is dating a woman who he has good feelings toward,” the agency said in a statement.
Meanwhile, local media outlets including Sports Chosun revealed that Joong-ki is dating a British woman after releasing photos of the actor with his girlfriend.

Korean entertainment news outlet Newsen TV also spotted Joong-ki arriving at the Incheon Airport with his girlfriend.
Fans became curious about the woman’s identity and speculated that Joong-ki’s new girlfriend is Katy Louise Saunders, a former actress with British-Columbian roots.
Saunders starred in Los Borgia (2006), Third Person (2013), and The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003).
This suspicion came after fans revived an acceptance speech video of the actor in the APAN Star Awards in Japan in September, where he won a Daesang award.
In the video, the actor mentioned the following names in his speech: “Katy, Nalla, Maya, Antes.”
“I would like to thank my father, mother, brother, sister-in-law, and dear sister watching me from Daejeon. And my dear Katy, Nalla, Maya, and Antes. And all my friends who always treat me as if I’m their precious stone. I love you guys,” said Joong-ki.
The Bichon Frise dog Nalla is Joong-ki’s pet. Meanwhile, fans have discovered that Maya and Antes are Saunders’ dogs based on her Facebook post.
As the rumors escalated, HighZium Studio addressed the speculations with a short confirmation.
“We cannot confirm anything other than the fact that they are dating,” it said.
Other information regarding the couple is yet to be disclosed, and how the two of them met remains a mystery to the public.
