Reported deaths due to Egay, Habagat still 25; Falcon may exit PAR later Tuesday

The number of deaths due to the combined effects of Typhoon Egay and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) remained at 25, while damage to infrastructure and agriculture totaled P5.47 billion, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday.

In its report released at 8 a.m., the NDRRMC said there were 25 reported fatalities, of which 23 have yet to be validated.

Thirteen people are still missing, and 52 individuals were injured.

The inclement weather affected 2.45 million people from 13 regions and 47 provinces.

The estimated cost of damage was P3.51 billion for infrastructure and P1.96 billion for agriculture.

Five provinces as well as 13 cities and municipalities were placed under a state of calamity.

Typhoon Falcon

Meanwhile, Typhoon Falcon maintained its strength as it moved towards the sea southeast of Japan’s Okinawa Islands. 

At 4 a.m., Falcon’s center was located 925 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 215 km/h.

It was moving northwestward at 20 km/h.

“Due to the very expansive wind field of the typhoon, the hoisting of Wind Signal due to Falcon over Batanes is no longer ruled out. In such a case, the highest level that may be hoisted is Wind Signal No. 1,” PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. 

The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Falcon will also bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portion of Luzon in the next three days. 

Falcon is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday afternoon or evening.
