‘Please, remember this night’: A queer indie short film that will melt your heart

Do you feel like a passenger waiting on the train, or you are the train that passes by people’s lives? Either way, we have different railways that we go through everyday and it’s up to us if we remember or forget these.

Maybe someone passed through your life and you felt a deep connection, and yet they still left, as everyone else does.

A new queer short film produced by SBSG Pictures and directed by Joshua De Vera, called Please, remember this night, is the way to release your feelings!

In this movie, two students from Katipunan named Tristan and Angelo fail to catch the last train. Even though they are unfamiliar with each other, they decide to walk home together. Their connection could make viewers teary eyed.

De Vera explains why he decided to tell this story.

“In a queer context, we crave for these experiences as part of being a queer. We are deprived of having this kind of chance encounter or deep human connections. That’s why when it arrives, we cherish it, we make it so special because of the fear that it might be our first and last experience,” he said.

“There’s always a pessimistic thought when someone comes into our life. In the back of our heads, we wonder if are we even worthy of this connection? Is this real? And when it will be taken away from us,” he added.

When asked if he associates himself with one of the characters, the indie film director said he feels more like the third character– the train, which only experiences the arrival and departure of people in his life.

Tristan and Angelo’s unexpected encounter cuts through viewers’ hearts as it shows how people come and go, and that a one-time meeting can create a significant memory for one person.

It also tackles how not everyone has the privilege of warmth and home, and points out the differences in the lives of people.

This short-film will make viewers realize that there are people who are vulnerable about memories they make, and there are some who view memories like a bubble that’s easy to lose.

The encounter of Tristan and Angelo is a one of a kind moment, and also a treasured memory with some wounds. This serves an unforgettable lesson that some will cherish and apply in their lives.

To all passengers, to all who feel like a train, to those who pass by, and to those who stay, this short-film is now streaming on Vimeo and will be available until August 13, 2023!
