Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee now out of ICU

IT looks like the collective prayers of fans and friends worked as Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee, who was hospitalized for pneumonia, is now out of the intensive care unit and is currently recuperating.

In an Instagram post, Parokay informed the public that Chee Kee is recovering, although he might not be released from the hospital anytime soon.

“Finally!!! Gab is out of the ICU! Thank you Lord!,” it said.

“Though still far from 100%, he has already transferred to a progressive room to continue his recovery from the pneumonia and the complications brought after. Pwede na rin siya humawak ng cellphone at nababasa niya ang mga comments, kaya wag kayo magulat kung biglang mag-reply siya sa inyo!” it said.

The post was accompanied by a photo of Chee Kee holding his guitar while on his hospital bed.

“Hindi pa siya makakalabas ng hospital anytime soon, pero eto siya, nagpapraktis na mag gitara para makapag-gig ulit siya para sa inyo!” the band said.

It thanked all those who extended help and prayed for Chee Kee’s safety and recovery.

Music industry comes together for Gab

In the true spirit of “walang iwanan sa Parokya band,” the group, headlined by frontman Chito Miranda, raised funds for its guitarist’s fight against lymphoma.

The group kicked off its fundraising efforts on social media last January. The music industry also came together for Chee Kee.

Various acts and artists staged performances and held auctions to come up with funds to support his medication.

Singer-songwriter Ebe Dancel, who said Chee Kee is one of his best friends, donated the proceeds of his “Sa Wakas” concert for the former’s medical funds.

Just recently, an Eraserheads-signed guitar was auctioned for P1.3 million, and the amount  was directly paid to the hospital’s accounting office.

Meanwhile, artists like Gloc-9, Shanti Dope, Flow G, Barbie Almalbis, Acel Bisa, Aia de Leon, and Lougee Basabas and many others, staged gigs where door charges went to the drummer’s medications.

Chee Kee also recently underwent surgery for his lymphoma and his bandmates paid him a visit on Valentine’s Day to cheer him up.
