Pagdalaw replaces ‘Traslacion’ in 2023

THE traditional “Traslacion” will still not push through in 2023 due to the recurring threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Quiapo Church officials.

“Dahil naririto pa rin ang COVID, hindi pa rin gaganapin ang Traslacion sa Enero 2023,” church officials said in a media event.

The last time the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene held its customary procession was in January 2020.

However, the church officials said that activities intended for the Black Nazarene would still push through and would be called “Pagdalaw” instead of the traditional “Traslacion.”

The priests and hijos of Quiapo will bring the image of the Black Nazarene to different provinces, barangays, offices, and communities. The live-streaming of masses in Quiapo will also continue daily and hourly on the day of the feast, according to Quiapo Church.

Pagdalaw is set to take place on December 1-15 and on December 27-29 this year. It will also be held at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta on January 7–9, 2023.

Church officials have warned devotees to still observe minimum public health standards before paying homage to the Black Nazarene.

Devotees who cannot attend the Pagdalaw are encouraged to watch the live streaming via the church’s official channels.

“Walk of faith”

Quiapo Church said the walk of faith will be conducted on January 8, 2023. The procession will start by 2:00 p.m. at the Quirino Grandstand Parade and will last until the devotees arrive at the Quiapo Church by 4 p.m.

Moreover, in lieu of the typical “Pahalik,” devotees may simply touch the Black Nazarene instead of performing the ritual.

The church also advised those who will participate to wear face masks and alcohol to avoid spreading the virus.
