ACTRESS Nadine Lustre has another award to add to her long list of accolades after she bagged the “Best Actress” trophy during the awards night of the 71st Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) on Sunday.
The 29-year-old actress received her second FAMAS Best Actress award for her role of Kichi in the 2022 suspense-thriller film Greed.
Directed and written by Yam Laranas, Greed centers on Kichi and Tomi who plan to leave their life in a remote province quietly after winning the lottery. However, things get gory for the two as their neighbor Dadong learns about the good news, which they tried to hide from their community.
Actor Diego Loyzaga starred opposite Lustre, while actor Epy Quizon played the role of Dadong.
In her acceptance speech, Lustre said it was a “huge honor” for her to be chosen as the recipient of the award.
“Gusto ko po ‘tong i-dedicate sa lahat po ng nagmamahal at sumusuporta po sa’kin. Sa buong pamilya ko po, sa partner ko, sa friends ko, my team, sa bumubuo po ng Greed and of course, to my Viva family,” she said.
The actress also gave thanks to Laranas for trusting and giving her the opportunity to be part of Greed.
Aside from the Best Actress award, Lustre also won the “Face of the Night award,” along with actor Mon Confiado.
Lustre’s first FAMAS Best Actress win was in 2019, where she starred as Joanne in the romance film Never Not Love You.
Never Not Love You, directed by Antoinette Jadaone, follows the story of a young couple whose relationship is tested after receiving career opportunities that will take them on different paths.
Lustre starred in the film with her then boyfriend James Reid, who portrayed the role of Gio.
Lustre is one of the well-known actresses in the country who has won multiple awards for her exceptional performances.
Her recognitions include the “Best Actress in a Lead Role” award from the Asian Academy Creative Awards in 2019 for her role in the romance-fantasy film Ulan.
In the movie, she plays the role of Maya, a girl who grew up believing supernatural creatures such as the Tikbalang, and that the rain has something to do with her miseries.
Her performance in Never Not Love You also won her the “Best Actress” award at the Gawad Urian Award and the “Best Performance” award at the Young Critics Circle.
Her television projects Till I Met You and Your Moment also earned her the “Actress of the Year” and “Best TV Female Personality” recognitions, respectively.
The Greed star’s most recent win is her fourth nomination for FAMAS Best Actress.
She was first nominated in 2016 for her performance in the teen romance film Para sa Hopeless Romantic, where she played a young writer named Becca, who is trying to get over a heart break by writing her own love story.
Lustre was once again nominated in 2020 for her role in Ulan.
Actor Noel Trinidad won the “Best Actor” award for his role in Family Matters, where he played Francisco, the stroke-stricken head of a family. He becomes the subject of his children’s quarrel as they try to decide who’s going to take care of their father.
The 2022 film also took home the “Best Picture,” “Best Editing,” and “Best Supporting Actress” (for Nikki Valdez) awards.
Meanwhile, Blue Room gained the “Best Director,” “Best Cinematography,” and “Best Musical Score” awards.
Reroute won the “Best Supporting Actor” award (for Sid Lucero) and “Best Sound” awards.
