A NEW change is coming to Twitter after the microblogging site’s CEO Elon Musk announced that a more expensive subscription is underway for those who want to enjoy an ad-free Twitter.
The new owner of Twitter did not disclose the date of the exact rollout of the new feature. However, he said that it is planning to offer the subscription in the next coming weeks.
“Ads are too frequent on Twitter and too big. Taking steps to address both in coming weeks,” said Musk in a Tweet.
According to Musk, “there will be a higher priced subscription that allows zero ads” for those who want an ad-free experience on the social media platform.
Musk-led Twitter has been embroiled in a series of controversies since he acquired the platform in October.
But Twitter has been struggling even before his takeover of the company. According to reports, the corporation recorded a net loss of $221.4 million.
But Musk’s entry to the platform, who has already implemented controversial regulations, appears to have thrown Twitter even further into disarray.
Musk’s measures to enhance Twitter revenue and save money include cracking down on IT infrastructure spending and offering paid verification. But even so, these also proved to be controversial.
When Musk unveiled the premium verification plan, a swarm of fraudulent identities began to obtain blue badges on the site for $8. Some celebrities, including religious characters such as Jesus and Satan, have also received their blue check.
Political leaders George W. Bush and Tony Blair were also subjected to the verification of fake user accounts, raising concerns among Twitter users about the platform’s reliability.
Aside from Twitter Blue, Musk also announced the new version of the platform, Twitter 2.0, where employees have been pressured by Musk to pledge to work “long hours at high intensity” or else Musk will sack them.
Twitter employees were left with either resigning from their posts or becoming part of the massive layoffs spearheaded by Musk since his takeover.
Not only that, according to recent US media reports, Twitter has been planning to do another round of layoffs which would reduce the company’s headcount to under 2,000 employees.
