MMFF movies that will make you LOL

CHRISTMAS movies are not limited to one genre. As long as family, friends or sweethearts are together, going to the cinema or watching films is really fun.

During the annual Metro Manila Film Festival held every Christmas, the best selling movies tend to be comedies.

One of Filipinos’ favorite bonding moments is to laugh, which is why funny movies are always a hit. Some don’t even mind rewatching their favorites if they want to improve their mood. 

Here are some of the past MMFF hits that will surely tickle your funny bone.

Parental Guidance (2016)

Coco Martin joined Vice Ganda in his annual comedy film entry at the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2016. The movie Parental Guardians was a blockbuster and earned more than Php 500 million at the tills.

The story is about Arci (Vice Ganda) who was put in charge of taking good care of Sarah’s (Matet de Leon) children after she died. Paco (Coco Martin) had no choice but to move in with Arci and look after Sarah’s children, Megan (Awra Briguela) and Ernie (Onyok Pineda).

Die Beautiful (2016)

Die Beautiful was the first Metro Manila Film Festival entry of Paolo Ballesteros. He portrayed the character of Trisha Echeverria, a transwoman who struggled for acceptance from his family and pursued her pageant dreams with her best friend, Barbs (Christian Bables). But she died after winning the crown, and Barbs granted her wish to change her look for each day of her wake.

Four Sisters and A Wedding (2013)

Four Sisters and a Wedding has remained popular since its release in 2013. It has become a rich source of memes and social media jokes, even up to now. It is a comedy-drama movie about a family of four sisters and one brother. 

It features prominent stars Angel Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Bea Alonzo and Shaina Magdayao.

The story begins with the youngest brother, CJ (Enchong Dee) announcing his engagement.  His elder sister Gabbie (Shaina) then convinced all their other sisters to go home for the wedding, as requested by their mother Grace (Coney Reyes). The ensuing events led to confrontations about long-simmering issues and generated quotable quotes lines that many fans still have memorized up to this day. 

Bulong (2011)

When Vhong Navarro and Angelica Panganiban’s natural flair for comeday are combined, their film will surely be fun to watch. In the movie Bulong, Vhong stars as Conan, who seeks the help of Oprah, Angelica’s character, when the ghost of a dead woman began to follow him around after he whispered a wish to a corpse. 

Although the story has horror elements, it has a lot of comedic moments as well that will surely make viewers laugh. 

Ang Tanging Ina Mo! (Last Na To!) (2010)

Ang Tanging Ina Mo! (Last na ‘To!) is the third movie in the  “Ang Tanging Ina” series and was shown during the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival in 2010. 

It follows the story of Ina Montecillo after she left her previous position as President of the Philippines and went on to live a simple life with her large brood, only to be told that she has a brain tumor. 

It has won several awards, including “Best Festival Actress”, ” Best Festival Original Story”, and “Gender Sensitivity Award.”
