Marcos to visit China and US anew in 2023

President Marcos Jr will make two important trips next year. He will go to China and meet with Chinese President Xi Jing Ping in January and in Washington  for United States President Joe Biden.

President Marcos Jr. would also go on a state visit to China on January 3 next year. Chinese President Xi Jinping will host President Marcos Jr.

The official trip would be for three days, the President’s  earliest state visit in 2023.

Marcos  is scheduled to travel to the US, too,  at least twice in 2023, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said on Friday.

Marcos has said that he would be meeting with Xi to discuss the ongoing maritime turmoil between the Philippines and China and to find a solution to settle the territorial crisis that has been going on for years over the West Philippine Sea.

Romualdez said the chief executive would also participate in the Summit for Democracy in June 2023.

“President Marcos will be coming to the United States definitely at least twice next year because there is the Summit for Democracy which is being hosted by the United States,” Romualdez said in an interview.

In December 2021, US President Joe Biden officiated the inaugural Summit for Democracy.

Romualdez said Marcos would also be present in the meetings of the Senior Officials and Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in the United States.

The last time the United States hosted APEC was in 2011. Then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III attended the leaders’ summit.

“We haven’t had a state visit for 13 years now, and we’ve not had a president to come officially to the United States since about eight years ago,” Romualdez said.
