A security guard working at a mall in Quezon City has been fired following allegations that he killed a puppy by throwing it off a footbridge outside the establishment.
Facebook user Janine Santos said the guard threw the animal on Tuesday after its young owners refused to leave the mall’s premises.
The reason behind the guard’s demand for the children to leave the area was not immediately clear.
The guard was then apparently approached by a man regarding his behavior, but the latter allegedly said that he didn’t care.
”Lahat po ng tao na nakasaksi halos maiyak dahil sa kawalang hiya nung security guard,” said Santos, who shared pictures of the incident on her social media account.
Following the incident, SM North EDSA expressed ”extreme sadness” and said it sympathized with the children.
”We have called the attention of the security agency to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter. The security guard has been dismissed and is no longer allowed to service any of our malls nationwide,” SM North EDSA said in a statement.
”As a pet-friendly establishment, we strongly condemn any acts that endanger or harm the lives of animals,” it added.
