A MAGNITUDE 7.3 earthquake rocked the province of Sarangani in Davao Occidental Wednesday, January 18, at around 2:06 pm today.
The earthquake of tectonic origin was located 64 kilometers east of Sarangani.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, instrumental intensities were felt in various areas.
Intensity IV:
Sarangani, Davao Occidental
Intensity II:
Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City, Tupi, Santo Niño, Koronadal City, and T’Boli, South Cotabato.
Intensity I:
Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Maitum and Maasim, Sarangani; Tantangan, Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Suralla, and Norala, South Cotabato; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur including Davao del Sur.
Moderate shaking was also felt in Carmen, Davao del Norte.
Davao de Oro
Intensity I to II was experienced in all municipalities.
Davao Oriental
Intensity II was experienced.
According to the data provided by the Sea Level Monitoring in Mati City Davao Oriental, “no sea level changes were monitored” and “no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake.”
The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also said that as of the moment, there has been no reported damages caused by the ground shaking.
