Kai Sotto will see action at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
On Tuesday, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio ended speculations about Sotto’s availability for the global tournament after the latter suffered a back injury while playing in the NBA Summer League in July.
“Our doctors spoke yesterday to Kai’s doctors, and he’s been cleared to play,” Panlilio said at a news conference in Pasig City.
Sotto has already been attending Gilas practices, Panlilio said, adding that he hopes that the 7-foot-3 center will be able to participate in friendly matches against Ivory Coast, Montenegro, and Mexico in the coming days.
Panlilio also said Scottie Thompson, who sustained a hand injury during Gilas’ European training, had rejoined practices.
”He’s fit,” the SBP executive said of the reigning PBA MVP.
The SBP has yet to announce the final 12-man lineup for the tournament, which will run from August 25 to September 10.
