NBA star Jordan Clarkson is expected to play for the Philippine men’s national basketball team at the FIBA World Cup next month.
Clarkson’s commitment was secured by the national federation, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
SBP president Al Panlilio said the Utaz Jazz guard would join the rest of Gilas Pilipinas in a pocket tournament in China on August 6, where they will compete against Lebanon, Iran, and Senegal.
PBA standout Justin Brownlee, meanwhile, will reportedly reinforce Gilas as a naturalized player for the Asian Games in China this September.
The 32-team FIBA World Cup will take place from August 25 to September 10 and is co-hosted by Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Along with the highly coveted Naismith Trophy, seven tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics are also up for grabs.
