THE multi-awarded multiverse hit Everything Everywhere All At Once sweeps seven recognitions including best picture at the prestigious Academy Awards on Monday, March 13 (Philippine time).
During the Academy Awards ceremony, the film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won seven awards including best picture, director, original screenplay, lead actress, supporting actress, supporting actor and editing.
This makes Everything Everywhere All At Once the second most awarded film in the Academy following the 2008 romance drama film Slumdog Millionaire that secured eight trophies in 2009.
These seven Oscar trophies make the action-comedy science fiction film the most awarded film in history with 168 accolades from major film critics and award bodies worldwide as of writing.
According to research conducted by IGN Southeast Asia, this title was previously held by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which earned 101 major awards.
Everything Everywhere All At Once also gained nods and praises from different award-giving bodies including the British Academy Film Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Golden Globes Awards.
Much like their characters in the film, veteran actors Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan became unstoppable forces during the awards night for their monumental recognitions for the Asian community.
Yeoh, a Switzerland-based Malaysian Chinese actress, made history by becoming the first Asian to be presented with the Best Actress in a Leading Role award.
She also made this roaring success at the recent Screen Actors Guild awards ceremony in the same category.

In her acceptance speech, the critically-acclaimed actress said that her Academy award is proof that there are no limits to reaching one’s dreams.
“This is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams do come true,” Yeoh said.
And ladies, don’t let anybody tell you [that] you are ever past your prime. Never give up.”

Meanwhile, Quan, who was known for his roles in the films Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies, became emotional for being the second Asian to obtain the Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the Academy.
Quan was also the first Asian to win best supporting role in the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Everything Everywhere All At Once was the Vietnamese actor’s comeback film after stepping away from the limelight since The Goonies in 1985.
According to the award-winning actor, his Academy award is the definition of the American dream.
He also advised viewers to never give up on their dreams and to continue believing in them.
“Dreams are something you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine,” the emotional Quan said.
To all of you out there, please keep your dreams alive,”
