IT was a dream come true for Philippine-based voice over artist Inka Magnaye when she signed and sealed a contract with Warner Bros. Pictures on August 9 for her role in the forthcoming DC film Blue Beetle.
Warner Bros. Pictures. Philippines, which will be distributing the movie, welcomed Magnaye to the Blue Beetle family. She will voice Scarab in the Philippine release of the movie.
“It’s signed, sealed and voiced! We’re so proud to have one of our own [Philippine flag emoji] voice the scarab in the Philippine release of #BlueBeetle!,” it said on its Facebook page.
Magnaye is the first Philippine-based Filipino talent to do a voiceover in the DC movie.
This also makes the Philippines the lone Asian country where a local voice artist will participate in the movie.
Is this real?
Magnaye recalled her surprise when she got the email, which was forwarded by her team, inviting her to voice Scarab.
“They sent the email to our chat group without anything, just the screenshot of the email. And then I looked at it, I was a little confused. I’m like, ‘What? Oh my gosh! This is real!’” she said in a press conference.
The 34-year old voice artist said she was stunned when she realized Warner Bros. had personally picked her for the role.
“It’s sinking in little by little. I don’t know if I am fully here. At the back of my head, there is an Inka going, ‘Is this really happening? I am dreaming right?” she said.
She also said being the voice behind her character requires a lot of mental preparation as this is her biggest project she has ever taken.
Magnaye first announced on August 2 in a Facebook post that she would voice Scarab in the Philippine release of the action-adventure film.
In the original release, Becky G will be the voice of the character.
“It’s been one of my big dreams to be a canon part of a superhero world, and now I get to share this wonderful news with all of you!!” Magnaye wrote.
Some lines in the movie would be in Tagalog, she said.
“Please look out for my name in the credits when Blue Beetle comes out in cinemas this month, August 16,” she added.
Blue Beetle tells the story of Jaime Reyes, played by Cobra Kai actor Xolo Mariduaña, who gets possessed by an ancient alien relic called Scarab, which helps him discover his limitless superpower.
Friends and netizens congratulated Magnaye for bagging the role.
