Despite her nods at several international award-winning bodies, critically-acclaimed actress Dolly de Leon failed to make a nomination at the 95th Academy Awards, something that would have made history for a Filipino actor.
Apparently, despite massive predictions about her getting a Best Actress nomination, she wasn’t able to get into the list.
Her “Triangle of Sadness” however is fighting for the best picture award. The Swedish filmmaker, the Palme d’Or-winning Ruben Östlund film, is also vying for best director.
Under the Best Picture category, “Triangle of Sadness” goes against “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Women Talking.”
Ostlund at the same time is also nominated for the Screenplay category alongside those behind “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” and “Tár.”
The 2023 Oscars ceremony will be held on March 13.
Supporters of de Leon however are still celebrating her nominations at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and the United States’ Golden Globe Awards.
De Leon plays Abigail, a luxury yacht toilet cleaner who, thanks to her practical skills, leads privileged passengers stranded on an island.
