ENROLLMENT for School Year 2023-2024 officially started on Monday, three weeks before public schools open their doors for classes on August 29, 2023.
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said that the enrollment, which started August 7, will be until August 26.
DepEd spokesperson Undersecretary Michael Poa said in a radio interview that they are expecting an increase in the number of students in public schools, from 28.7 million to 28.8 million.
Poa said that some 28.4 million students had enrolled in 44,931 public schools and 12,162 private schools during the previous academic year.
The DepEd said that private schools have the option of opening classes any day starting the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.
Likewise, the education department said that they will be conducting a Brigada Eskwela Program — which is a yearly nationwide school maintenance program.
This will start on August 14 until August 19, with the national kick-off held on Monday, August 7.
On the other hand, the Christmas break will start on December 18, 2023 and will end on January 2, 2024.
Classes will resume on January 3, 2024.
The projected end of school year break will be from June 17 to August 25, 2024.
