CALLING all college students and professionals age 18 to 35. If you are one of those young people who missed traveling to China and have the knack for writing, here’s your chance to explore and experience the Chinese sceneries and culture.
A nongovernment organization, the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU), is sponsoring an essay writing contest for Filipino youth.
Essayists should write their entries based on the theme “Role of Filipino Youth in Promoting Philippines-China Understanding.”
Five winners who will be picked will win a free round-trip air ticket from Manila to China, including free accommodations, food and stipend allowance.
The winners will form part of entourage of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from March 31 to April 4, 2023. Deputy House Speaker Macapagal-Arroyo is also the chairman emeritus of APCU.
Winning essays will also be published in APCU website and social media platforms.
APCU was initially formed as an informal group of Filipino friends of China in 1972 to coordinate aid coming from China to Filipinos who suffered from a destructive flood in Central Luzon. Among its original members were national artists Alejandro Roces and Jose Joya, and Macapagal-Arroyo.
Later, it became an NGO, with artists, businessmen, journalists, civic leaders, and academics among its members.
They organize study and cultural visits to China, stage symposia and other projects to help boost friendship between China and the Philippines.
Aside from Macapagal-Arroyo, APCU leaders include Chairman Atty. Raul Lambino, First Vice-Chairman Jeffrey Ng, Second Vice-Chairman Felix Guanzon and President Sixto Benedicto.
