Apex Legends Mobile to shut down on May 1

TIME to say goodbye, Legends!

Apex Legends Mobile players will not be respawning anymore after its developer, Electronic Arts, announced the end of the video-turned-mobile game on May 1.

“We have made the decision to sunset Apex Legends Mobile,” the developers  revealed in their social media posts. “The game will sunset on May 1, 2023 at 4 p.m. PDT after which it will no longer be playable.”

According to the announcement, the reason behind the cancellation of the game can be traced back to the team’s inability to “maintain the high-quality experience and content” that players deserve.

“Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence,” the game developers wrote in a blog.

The developers also said  the factors that compelled them to make this difficult decision are beyond their control.

Following the announcement, EA disclosed that there will be a 90-day window starting on January 31 before the sunset of the game to give players time to spend their remaining Syndicate Gold and continue playing the full game.

What about the in-game purchases?

As per the announcement, players may enjoy their in-game purchases and the rest of the game features until May 1.

The same goes for the players’ virtual currency, which they can spend on in-game content during the 90-day window period.

However, the developers said they will not be providing refunds for real money purchases, in accordance with the EA User Agreement.

They also said players are free to enjoy and use  all previously purchased and unlocked in-game content throughout the transition period.

They have already disabled all real money purchases in the game and are currently in the process of removing the game from all app downloading platforms.

What is Apex Legends Mobile?

Similar to the original Apex video game, the mobile version is a free-to-play hero shooter game where players compete for “glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier.”

Released in May 2022, this character-based game provides enjoyment to players due to its fast-paced combat and unique character abilities that immerse players in the Apex universe.

The game recorded over 10 million downloads on Google Play and ranks at number 13 in Apple Play’s Strategy games.
