Andrea Brillantes, the new Dyesebel

WHAT an early Christmas gift!

Kapamilya actress Andrea Brillantes was chosen to recreate the Filipino classic Dyesebel, her manager Ogie Diaz revealed in his vlog last Sunday, December 11.

Diaz said the 19-year-old Brillantes is set to begin shooting for the series next year.

“Dyesebel, syempre, ‘yan ay walang iba kundi si Andrea Brillantes,” he said.

As he disclosed Brillantes’ newest project, he assured viewers that the young actress knows how to swim, in case netizens are worried about how she would portray the role of the popular Filipino mermaid.

“Yes, marunong mag-swim [si Andrea],” he said.

“Actually ‘yung nanay niya ay diver. Napakahusay sa diving ‘yung nanay niya,” he added.

Dyesebel had been portrayed by several actors such as Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, Charlene Gonzales and Anne Curtis.

Fans were hyped after they figured out that Brillantes would be portraying the iconic role.

The actress is also set to star in a new TV series called “Drag You and Me”

Brillantes started her showbiz career in the children’s gag show “Goin Bulilit,” then guest starred in some ABS-CBN shows. 

She rose to fame for her role in “Annaliza,” which aired from 2013 to 2014. It was a remake of a hit ‘80s soap opera. 

She also used to appear in the Kathniel hit series “Pangako Sa’yo,” where she played the role of “Lia,” the daughter of Ian Veneracion (Eduardo) and Angelica Panganiban (Claudia Buenavista).

In an Instagram post, the young actress shared her final goodbye to her role as Lia in 2016, and said it was one of her favorites.

She gained more popularity due to her role as “Marga” or Margaret Mondragon Bartolome in the hit TV series “Kadenang Ginto”, which aired from 2018 to 2020.
