Alternative electronica band Lila Blanca gives back via free performances

PINOY alternative electronica band Lila Blanca is giving back during this holiday season with free performances as part of its “Tunog Kalye” campaign.

December is the month of love and giving, after all.

Lila Blanca, named after its lead vocalist, is known for its original songs “Disagree,” “Ligaw,” “Misery,” and “Lango.”

The five-member band is offering to play for free this December in a public or commercial space, in a busking-inspired set up, as long as it will be provided with a sound system and their schedule permits, according to vocalist Mike Lila.

These could include places like malls and parks with proper security.

“Basically as long as they can provide the in-house or the sound system for the group, the band itself will perform in full na wala naman talaga kailangan bayaran yung venue or host,” Lila said.

The set usually includes seven to 10 songs and lasts for one to two hours, if the band would perform alone, he said.

He said the concept of “Tunog Kalye” was inspired by solo artists who are involved in busking.

Tradition of giving

Lila said it has been the band’s tradition to share its music for free every December since the group was formed eight years ago.

“We started the group in 2014, that was December. We did a free event care of one production. They had this beneficiary na leukemia patient,” he said.

December is the season of giving after all, he noted.

“Palagay ko yun yung dahilan kaya naging yearly sa amin,” he said.

Aside from giving back, Lila said the “Tunog Kalye” campaign also helps to expose the band’s kind of music to the public.

“Not everybody gets to see us really perform in full set up. Ang problema sa ibang setting, especially locally na di ganun ka advance ang setting, nag a-alternative set up lang kami,” he said.

But places like malls could provide the band with the full set up of equipment that would allow it to share its full sound, he said.

Sounds like Incubus

Lila describes Lila Blanca’s sound as similar to that of the American rock band Incubus.

Aside from Lila, the other members of the band are rapper Blasian Lucy, lead guitarist John Carl Saguban, bass guitarist Jeremiah Sangco, and drummer Glen Seatres.

Lila Blanca is managed by Stardom Music Production.
