The name Brian Puspos reminded us of our high school memories. Before TikTok was a thing, we used to spend so much time watching his dance choreographies on YouTube. Many of us even did covers of his smooth and strong dance moves.
Little did we know, some of those who danced to Puspos’ choreographies a few years ago would be the same individuals whom we’re now looking up to — among them is K-pop powerhouse BTS.
Here are five moments when these two different worlds collided:
The Fil-Am choreographer trended on Twitter after he performed with BTS’ youngest member, Jungkook, on the Good Morning America Summer Concert series. Puspos revealed in an Instagram post that the K-pop idol ‘’asked’’ him to dance with him for his solo debut, Seven.
This full circle moment put the choreographer on cloud nine.
“Dreaming, don’t wake me up, please,” Puspos wrote in the caption, where he also thanked Jungkook and other people behind the collaboration.
The well-seasoned choreographer has worked with K-pop megastars on different choreographies, including Jimin’s solo single, Serendipity.
In 2021, the Filipino choreographer took to Reddit to answer some fans’ questions about his collaboration with Jimin. He praised the K-pop idol’s dance skills when a fan asked him about the strengths he noticed in Jimin as a dancer.
“When I got that job to choreograph for him, I just told myself to choreograph this like it was for myself because Jimin can do anything I can do and probably better, lol. No challenges really. HE KILLED IT,” Puspos answered.
He added that it was Jimin’s dance style that appealed to him the most among BTS members.
Puspos also showed his own take on BTS’ iconic song, Butter, when he made his own choreography in 2021 for his dance workshop in STEEZY Studio. Among the dancers who performed with Puspos were Sean Lew, Devin Pornel, Trevor Takemoto, Dominique Johnson, Hugh Aparente, and Khaimyn Tantay.
Fans of BTS, collectively known as ARMY, were both mesmerized by the soothing voice and dance moves of the septet in Butterfly, their comeback performance in 2016. The group’s smooth and gentle dance choreography was the brainchild of the Fil-Am choreographer.
Puspos revealed that he was the choreographer for the song in a tweet in February 2018, where he praised the group for dancing to the song “beautifully.”
The earliest memory we have of these collaborations is, perhaps, the group’s dance covers of Puspos’ choreographies a few years ago.
In 2016, Jungkook and Jimin did a dance cover of Puspos’ Own It choreography, which they uploaded to BANGTANTV’s YouTube channel. The video has garnered more than 20 million views as of posting time.
The two members, along with another main dancer of the group, JHope, also danced to Puspos’ choreography of Take You Down.
