Vice Ganda’s ‘Partners in Crime’ rules MMFF 2022 box office

by Izel Abanilla

TV HOST comedian Vice Ganda showed his drawing power once again after his movie “Partners in Crime” dominated the box office at the opening of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

According to unofficial reports, the movie which is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and co-produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films is currently No. 1 among the eight entries. Also reportedly, it raked in P31 million on its first day.

True enough, a quick tour of malls showing the film which he stars with sexy actress Ivana Alawi showed he had the public support.

Members of the media who caught up with the comedian in Cebu had the chance to ask him why people should watch his movie, “First of all, so that my movie will become a hit. It would be too plastic of me to cite any other reason. This is not an advocacy, this is still business.”

He also went on to say that he never had a flop movie and plans to keep his record that way.

Of all MMFF top-grossing films the past years, Vice Ganda led most of them,  including the 2018 smash hit “Fantasica” which earned P596 million.

Apart from “Partners in Crime,” other box office players this year are “Deleter,” “Labyu With an Accent,” and “Family Matters.”

Although breaking records yet again in the box office, the movie did not bring home any award at the recently concluded Gabi ng Parangal.

Horror flick “Deleter” bagged the most number of awards including Best Picture, Best Actress for Nadine Lustre and Best Director for Mikhail Red.
