Sunday Reset: Orchestrate your life in a day

by RepublicAsia

THERE are a thousand things that could go wrong in a week: it could be a Monday full of paperwork, a Tuesday full of bills to pay, a Wednesday full of requirements, a Thursday full of coffee spills, or a Friday full of overtime.

One can only imagine the rest and relaxation they need for the weekend to recollect. Thankfully, this generation has popularized the concept of ‘Sunday Reset’ wherein you get to organize, change your sheets, clean, and plan for the week, as a way to ‘reset’ the week and start all over again.

It is seen as a self-relaxation process that increases productivity for the week. The process of a “Sunday Reset” not only helps you recollect from the stress of the previous week but becomes your booster for a successful week.

The concept has been around different social media platforms, with several influencers showing their Sunday Reset routines. It varies from doing your journal, doing an “everything shower,” organizing your stuff, and even cleaning your living space.

One would ask why doing all that on a specific day can boost productivity or even help a person with their mental health.

Coming from someone who has been doing the Sunday Reset concept since I started college, I’ve come to realize that the ideology really helped me shape a better week.

By organizing everything before the week starts, not only do I feel like I have erased the negative energy I’ve garnered from the past week, but I also feel accomplished knowing that I have finished all these tasks before the week even starts.

It helps boost my mood, making me enjoy the process of seeing everything pulled together. It’s the feeling of having so much control when you’re well aware that there are a number of things you cannot decide on.

Personally, I’ve mastered a routine that works for me. First, I do the basic cleaning of my dorm room. I do the dishes, I sweep the floors, and I go over every tiny corner to make sure that everything is actually clean.

Now, with the image of a clean dorm, I feel satisfied with the knowledge that things are in their rightful place.

Up next, I do an everything shower; an everything shower consists of all the pampering that a woman does to maintain their skin, hair, etc. This not only makes me feel clean but also induces dopamine. Therefore, I feel happier.

But to be honest, the reason why acts like doing a deep clean and everything shower help mentally is because they make me feel in control.

Most of the time, a week not only collects negative energy but also collects negative thoughts. I would end the week tired and hopeless because I know that there are tons of responsibilities I have to attend to and problems I have to solve.

My mind is in a haywire. But through cleaning, I get to organize something within my control. It helps to keep my thoughts on the line too.

It feels like I’m cleaning the mess I made from the previous week through cleaning the physical mess I’m currently attending to.

When I finish doing the basic parts of my routine, I then start to journal or read. I know that for most people, journaling and reading is something they insert into their daily routine.

But, realistically, it’s incredibly hard to maintain such tasks in your daily routine. It can be suffocating having to stick to a daily routine sometimes. So, doing it during your Sunday Reset does not feel like a chore but rather a therapy.

Journaling and reading can feel freeing. It can feel as if you can dump everything on something without affecting it badly. I can feel like leaving the world for a while and enjoying the time you’re spending for yourself.

Because that is what Sunday Reset makes you feel. It makes you feel like you have a hold on the world, for what’s about to happen.

It’s your chance to reset the pain, the frustrations, and the disappointments you felt from the week before. It’s a chance to start over without having to disregard all the progress you’ve made.

Doing a Sunday Reset helps you regain your composure, it helps you have a tighter grasp of the things that may come your way. It’s that one day that gives you the power to conquer the world, even just for 24 hours.

For 24 hours, you get to orchestrate the way your week is going to sing. You get to choose on what foot you’re going to start running. You set the pace for yourself.
