NU Pep Squad: That towering feeling

by Athena Yap

THE Bulldogs are back on the throne!

After the National University Pep Squad had finally been declared winner, reclaiming the top title of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, their dancers and supporters turned emotional.

But before the announcement, John Cloud Cabido, the co-captain of the Junior NU troupe, said the team had learned its mistake from the last defeat and came back applying the lessons from its previous experience..

“Yung routine po nila is swak na swak para bawiin ‘yung korona na dapat sa Sampaloc,” Cabido said.

The NU Pep Squad energized and dazzled the crowd with its Aerobics-inspired routine and bright pink, blue, and yellow outfits.

The NU crowd also gave the all-out support that their pep squad needed.

Guillyn Petero, one of the Bulldogs’ cheer dancers,  said she strongly felt the support of their school.

“Nung naramdaman namin yung crowd, sobra po kaming na-hype and para sa amin po talaga to, sa lahat ng pinagdaanan namin this season,” she said.

It’s Petero’s first time to perform for the UAAP Cheerdance competition;  it was a dream come true.

She had brought a framed photo of her late father and said that she dedicated her entire performance to him.

Petero’s smile showed how much she poured her heart and soul into her whole performance.

For Jamin Tagulao, a representative of UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, it was an “unbelievable” experience.

“Parang ‘di kami nag-expect na magpopodium finish kami, basta ang ineexpect lang namin is maging safe kami all throughout the routine and maging successful ‘yung routine namin,” she said.

Over 18,000 people came to Mall of Asia Arena to witness the most awaited comeback of the cheerdance competition.
