UAAP-NCAA games cancelled due to Kristine PH

THE UAAP and NCAA, two of the country’s premier collegiate leagues, were forced to cancel their game day schedules on Wednesday as tropical storm “Kristine” continued to bring rainfalls throughout Luzon.

Given that Kristine is expected to gradually turn into a severe tropical storm before making landfall today, and classes in Metro Manila have been halted, the leagues announced a decision earlier last night.

UAAP’s second cancellation

In accordance with the statement made by the UAAP yesterday night, the league has postponed all scheduled games across all sports for today owing to the approaching inclement weather in Metro Manila.

“This decision follows the class suspensions declared by Manila City, Quezon City, and Pasay City due to Tropical Storm Kristine,” said UAAP in their statement.

Among the games affected are the Men’s Basketball Tournament match between Adamson University and Ateneo de Manila University, as well as the University of the Philippines and University of the East.

The Junior High School Boys’ Basketball matches, scheduled to play Far Eastern University-Diliman against Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle-Zobel versus Adamson University, have also been cancelled.

The High School Boys’ Volleyball pairings for the canceled gameday are UST against AdU, NU Nazareth School vs UE, FEU-D vs UP Integrated School, and DLSZ vs. Ateneo.

The basketball games were supposed to take place in the MOA Arena, while the volleyball matches were scheduled for Paco Arena. The league will offer an update on the rescheduling of the cancelled games at a later date.

Meanwhile, this has been the second cancellation of the league in recent days, with the UAAP rescheduling last Sunday’s games to November 3 owing to the USTET on the UST campus.

NCAA games cancelled

The NCAA has also cancelled games, according to the league’s Management Committee Chairman Herc Callanta of hosts Lyceum of the Philippines University, who made the statement Friday night.

The Seniors Basketball tournament would have had challenging games between Lyceum of the Philippines University and College of St. Benilde, as well as Emilio Aguinaldo College versus Jose Rizal University.

Similar to the UAAP, the rescheduling of these postponed games will be chosen after further examination and consideration, with the league issuing an official notification.
