AFTER all of the highs and lows we’ve had this year, it’s nice to reflect on everything we’ve accomplished. Carlos Yulo, for example, believes that the year was a rollercoaster trip for him.
In barely four months after the Philippines’ historic campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Yulo won two gold medals, the golden boy has started to conduct light training as early as now.
Setting aside his ambition of exceeding himself next year, the two-time Olympic gold medalist will take a vacation during the holiday season to reflect on how amazing and unforgettable this year has been for him.
“Rollercoaster po talaga itong taon na ito para sa akin. Super grateful po talaga. Wala po akong masabi kundi pasasalamat sa Panginoon at sa mga tumulong sa akin especially,” Yulo told the media.
“Kahit natatalo ako before Olympics, nagstay sila. Hindi po ako makakaangat kung ‘di dahil sa kanila kaya sobrang saya po na matatapos ‘yung taon na maraming na-accomplish at higit sa lahat healthy,” he added.
Yulo’s goals for 2025 are to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Games by competing in the Asian Championships, World Championships, and Southeast Asian Games.
In addition to practicing at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) headquarters in Intramuros with Coach Allen Aldrin Castañeda, he intends to attend international training camps to improve his skills.
Now that 2024 is coming to a close, Google has issued its annual Year in Search, which honors the people, events, contributions, and popular topics that dominated the Philippines.
While Yulo topped the list of Filipino delegates to the 2024 Summer Games, he also topped this year’s Google most searched individuals in the country, whether in news, sports, or male characters.
He joined the country’s most popular P-Pop girl group, BINI, whose member Mikha Lim is also among the most searched individually, along with two of their breakout singles, “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko”.
Speaking of celebrations, Yulo attended GAP’s Christmas party on Wednesday with his partner Chloe San Jose. The winningest artistic gymnast also sent a message for all of his Filipino fans.
“Advance Merry Christmas and Happy New Year po sa ating lahat. Mag-ingat po tayo palagi. Lagi po tayo magpasalamat sa Kaniya, magmahalan, at enjoy,” he said.
Yulo’s year may have been controversial, but it was definitely impressive to see him thrive and receive all he deserved this year. After all, the gymnast will go down in Philippine history as one of the best.
