Second floor of Bulacan church collapses on Ash Wednesday

SOME 47 individuals were hurt after the second floor of the St. Peter Parish Church in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan collapsed during an Ash Wednesday mass.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), many of the injured were taken to the nearest hospital.

CDRRMO head Gina Ayson, who was interviewed on radio station DZBB, said that the second floor was made of wood.

It collapsed as people queued up for the marking of ashes on their foreheads.

“Medyo marami po talagang tao dahil sabay po kasi siya eh sa pagpila ng pagpapahid ng abo kaya po talagang medyo dumagsa po ang tao,” she was quoted as saying.

One of the victims, Eva San Diego, told the same radio station that the collapse was gradual.
