Public school teachers in Taguig get free medical physical exams

SANA all.

Netizens were quick to quip a sigh of envy as the City of Taguig provided free annual physical examinations for around 5,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel in all public elementary and high schools within the city.

This initiative, scheduled from July 1-31, 2024, is aimed to promote preventive healthcare and detect potential health issues early, with all expenses covered by the local government.

Although the annual physical exam is not mandatory, the City of Taguig has chosen to offer it to both teaching and non-teaching staff.

This decision underscores the city’s commitment to the health and well-being of its educators. Additionally, to minimize external health risks to students, these medical services are being conducted inside the schools.

The annual physical examination covers a comprehensive range of health assessments, including:Physical examination; Vital signs monitoring; Chest X-ray; Complete blood count (CBC); Dental assessment; Visual acuity check; Clinical breast exam; Pap smear and all necessary diagnostic tests for early detection and treatment of any illnesses.

Likewise, Taguig is among the few local government units in the country offering free annual physical examinations, recognizing the vital role of teachers and non-teaching personnel in shaping the future of Taguigeño youth.

“Ensuring the health and well-being of our educators is vital to the future of our community. By providing free annual physical examinations, we are investing in the heart of our education system – our teachers and staff. This initiative not only promotes preventive healthcare but also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to supporting those who shape the minds of our youth,” Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

Junior High School teacher Romel Sua from Taguig Integrated School shared the importance of these examinations for educators’ health and well-being.

“Malaking tulong po itong APE sa aming mga educators to check our health and to make sure that we are always physically fit this coming school year. Thank you so much kay Mayor Lani Cayetano at sa pamahalaang lungsod ng Taguig sa opportunity na ibingay ninyo sa aming mga guro na magkaroon ng libreng annual physical exam,” Sua said.

Lyka Mae Cruz, a school nurse from General Ricardo G. Papa Sr. Memorial High School, thanked the City for its proactive approach in providing this APE and emphasized the benefits for their overall fitness and readiness.

”Napakahalaga po nito lalo na po for preventing the transmission of communicable diseases sa mga bata, if there is such case. Nagkakaroon po ng maayos na assessment for teaching and non-teaching staff ng schools if they are physically fit, at ma-address po if there is any finding bago po magpasukan. Gusto ko pong magpasalamat kay Mayor Lani Cayetano sa napakagandang programang pangkalusugan para sa ating mga guro,” Cruz said.
