JEEPNEY fares may reach up to P50 as a result of the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program, a group of commuters said.
According to Commuters of the Philippines chairperson Julius Dalay, fares would likely be influenced by high amortization to pay for the modern jeepneys.
Fares are currently at P13 for traditional jeepneys and P15 for modern jeepneys.
In an interview on TeleRadyo Serbisyo, Dulay also said that it’s possible for employees to switch jobs if fares were to rise in the future.
While the employees are given the option to ride their bikes to work, he said there will always be a possibility for employees to choose work-from-home opportunities instead.
