More charges to be filed vs suspect of Vancouver street festival incident – PH ambassador

THE man who rammed the crowd during the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver, Canada may face more charges, according to the Philippine Ambassador to Canada Maria Andrelita Austria. 

Currently, the 30-year-old suspect Kai-Ji Adam Lo has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder by the British Columbia prosecutors after the fateful incident on April 26.

At least 11 people aged 5 to 65 were killed, and dozens were injured. 

In an interview with DZBB,  Austria stated that the eight charges were possibly just the first ones filed and the others are still being processed. 

“Pino-process pa nila ‘yung sumunod na mga batch. Ang suspetsa namin, ito ‘yung mga naunang una na. Tapos ‘yung iba kasi sa ospital na binawian ng buhay. Ito ‘yung nauna,” she said in the interview. 

“Ipinangako sa amin na madadagdagan pa ‘yung kaso. Pino-proseso lang,” she assured.

Austria said that they have already spoken with the families of the Filipinos who died and were injured and are providing them with full assistance. 

She also clarified that not all fatalities and injured individuals were Filipinos.  

To assure the safety of the Filipino community, Austria said that for future events like the upcoming Filipino Heritage Month in June, they will be coordinating with the police, 

According to Austria, the police assured that they are reviewing all the security protocols.
