MMDA: NCR areas flooded, Marikina River swells

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that several areas in Metro Manila have started experiencing floods due to heavy rains pouring in the National Capital Region (NCR) brought about by the southwest monsoon.

According to the MMDA monitoring, gutter deep waters have been recorded in Balintawak both Northbound and Southbound.

In Mandaluyong, gutter deep waters were also being recorded along Edsa Shaw Southbound.

The MMDA said they expect more areas to experience floods as the heavy rains continue to persist.

Meanwhile, the Marikina River has begun swelling fast.

As of this writing, the water is nearing the 14 meter mark.

The first alert level is raised once waters reach 15 meters.

Alarm Level 1: when the water is 15 meters above sea level, means “prepare”

Alarm Level 2: when the water is 16 meters above sea level, means “evacuate”

Alarm Level 3: when the water is 18 meters above sea level, means “forced evacuation”
