WITH the threat of a hotter temperature and the three-day transport strike, at least two major universities in Metro Manila had declared that they will be moving to online classes.
An advise from the office of the University of Santo Tomas Office of the Secretary-General said that the implementation of the “Enriched Virtual Mode of Instruction” will be done on April 29–30 since the ”announced transport strike will constrain the implementation of our mitigation measures addressing the high heat index.”
“The Human Resource Department will issue a memorandum on work arrangements,” the advisory added.
Likewise, Far Eastern University Manila and Makati said that they had decided to switch to online instruction on April 29 and 30, citing ”limited campus access due to the transport strike.”
“Students are advised to consult with their teachers for class instructions,” the advisory said.
The transport strike will be done by PISTON from April 29 to May 1 in protest of the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program and the looming April 30 deadline for the consolidation of jeepney franchises.
Among the possible affected areas include Alabang, Baclaran, Sucat, Taft Avenue, Agoncillo, Monumento, Novaliches, Litex, Anonas, Katipunan, and Philcoa.
Just this Saturday, the highest temperature in Metro Manila was recorded at 38.8 degrees celsius, outheating the 1915 record of 38.6 degrees temperature.
