IT will now be a team effort in curbing dengue as a village in Mandaluyong City announced that they are offering a P1 reward for every mosquito or larva caught or killed.
The local government of Barangay Addition Hills said that they had even prepared an aquarium to which the mosquitoes and larvae will be placed and will be stored and killed.
The village chief was quoted as saying in an interview over GMA that the reward is offered to residents, as the number of dengue cases in their area had increased.
It is said to start on Friday, February 21.
Earlier, the Department of Health had warned that aside from Quezon City, eight more areas in the country may announce a dengue outbreak.
No less than DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo made the announcement. While refusing to state where, he said they are expecting their location in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.
They had also reminded the public to continue to practice the 5S strategy against dengue: Search and destroy breeding places; Secure self-protection; Seek early consultation; Support fogging or spraying in hotspot areas, especially during the rainy season; and Sustain hydration.
