Taguig rolls programs for responsible pet ownership

GOT a pet? Be responsible when taking it outside.

This was the appeal of the Taguig City Local Government Unit as they rolled out a citywide comprehensive program aiming to promote responsible pet ownership and cleaner public spaces by addressing dog waste.

Called “Project Linis,” it aims to promote responsible pet ownership as it includes pet waste stations, awareness campaigns, and stray dog rescue operations.

“Dumi ng Aso, Linis ng Amo!” is the program’s slogan, the city government said.

It is located in six key locations – Taguig Eco Park, Bagumbayan, Pinagsama, New Lower Bicutan, North Signal, and Rizal.

The LGU said that more stations will be installed across barangays in the coming months.

Under the initiative, designated pet waste disposal stations are set up with sandboxes and standees equipped with scoopers, biodegradable bags, bins, and disinfectants.

Meanwhile, the city will launch an awareness campaign across social media, community events, and barangay meetings to inform residents about the health risks of uncollected pet waste, including the spread of bacteria and parasites.

The campaign will include a jingle, educational videos, public service announcements as well as stickers and tarpaulins in public spaces to remind residents of their role in keeping the city clean.

Project Linis also includes rescue operations for stray dogs, which the city said are among the leading contributors to dog waste in public spaces. The city also introduced new stray animal rescue vehicles.

For its part, the City Veterinary Office (CVO) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) will work with local animal welfare groups to curb the stray population and promote responsible pet ownership through adoption campaigns.

“With one in every five Taguigueño families owning a dog, the City of Taguig urges all pet owners to do their part by bringing plastic bags, cleaning up after their pets, and using the disposal stations properly to keep Taguig clean, green, and pet-friendly,” it said.
