AS EXPECTED, rainy weather will continue to prevail on Wednesday, with portions of Luzon seeing sporadic rainfall and a gloomy sky caused by a shear line and the northeast monsoon.
PAGASA, the state weather bureau, indicated that the shear line will continue to influence the eastern portion of Central and Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon will affect Northern and Central Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are predicted in Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes, owing to the shear line.
Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur should also expect cloudy skies with isolated rainfall and thunderstorms as a result of the easterlies.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is forecast to bring cloudy skies and rain to the Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao regions.
The Ilocos Region, along with the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon, will enjoy partly cloudy to cloudy sky with isolated light rainfall from the northeast monsoon.
Despite not being directly affected by the seasonal phenomena, the rest of the country should expect partly cloudy to cloudy sky with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms.
On Tuesday night, state volcanologists PHIVOLCS issued a warning to numerous localities around Kanlaon Volcano about the possibility of rain-induced lahars in rivers triggered by heavy rainfall on the volcano’s southern slope.
“Rain-induced lahars may generate in rivers that pass through barangays impacted by pyroclastic density currents from the explosive eruption yesterday, 9 December 2024,” PHIVOLCS said in an advisory evening on December 10.
“Local government units have been advised to monitor these and downstream barangays in case lahars occur and impact these communities. Alert Level 3 now prevails over Kanlaon Volcano,” it added.
It should be noted that Kanlaon Volcano was previously placed on alert level 3, indicating that a dangerous eruption is expected in the coming weeks after the volcano emitted dark gray ash columns on Monday.
The ashes reached various regions of Panay Island and Guimaras Island, prompting authorities to issue evacuation orders in the volcano’s vicinity as a precaution against a larger eruption.
