Quezon City declares dengue outbreak with 200% increase in cases

THE Quezon City government has announced an outbreak in dengue cases as they had tallied an increase of 200 percent in cases from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14.

Mayor Joy Belmonte had said that they had already tasked all available resources in a bid to bring down the number of cases.

She also said the government services should be accessible, and that their priority is to protect its residents.

“Our declaration of a dengue outbreak ensures that we are on top of the situation, and we are doing everything we can to protect our residents from this deadly disease, especially our children,” Belmonte said during a recent briefing with media.

.According to the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Division, it showed that some 1,769 dengue cases were tallied from Jan. 1 and Feb. 14.

This is a 200 percent increase in cases compared to the same period last year.

The majority or 58 percent of the reported cases were children from 5 to 17. The remaining 44 percent were children aged 1 and 10.

She also said that ten, including 8 minors, died from the disease.

The QC LGU tasked various barangay health centers to strengthen the early detection and treatment.

QC has 66 health centers that operate seven times a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the health centers, there are designated fever express lanes as well as in hospitals to provide immediate medical attention.

There are also free dengue test kits for residents.

Meanwhile, the LGU told residents to expect fogging operations in high-risk areas under the supervision of sanitary inspectors.
