Palm Sunday: A time to reflect and rejoice

THOUSANDS of Filipino Catholics flocked to their respective Churches for the traditional “palaspas” or Palm Sunday Mass.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, to which the crowd welcomes Him by waving palm branches.

At the Manila Cathedral, Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula led the mass which signals the official start of the observance of Holy Week.

He told the faithful to follow Christ’s sacrifice and compassion.

“Sa ating kahinaan bilang tao, likas na gusto natin itanggi ang ating sakit. Kapag nasasaktan tayo nais ng ating isip takasan ang hirap lalo na pag di natin kaya unawain ang bigat nito,” he said. 

“Ngunit sa huli, kailangan natin magkaron ng tapang upang harapin ang ating mga suliranin, danasin ang ating hirap, at yakapin ang ating krus. Kailangang magpasya tayong dalhin ang sakit at makiramay sa sakit ng iba,” he added.

Palm Sunday is a time when many Christians reflect as well on the sacrifices of Jesus as they prepare for the Holy Week, a yearly tradition of faith and family bonding.

It is a time when Christians reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
