LRT fare hike set on April 2

SUMMER will be greeted by higher fares at the Light Rail Transit Line (LRT1) starting April, as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has approved the increase for the first mass transit system in Metro Manila.

According to the LRT1’s private concessionaire Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) there will be a new fare matrix for the railway system.

The LRMC also said that the new fares shall be effective starting April 2, 2025.

According to the LRMC, a notice dated February 14, 2025 showed that Railways Undersecretary Jeremy Regino, had informed them of the approved new fare formula for Line 1.

Presently, the current fare formula for LRT1 is P13.29 boarding fee. It will have a P1.21 increment per kilometer travel fee increase reaching to a P16.25 boarding fee and a distance per kilometer travel fare of P1.47.

According to the approved revised fare matrix, the maximum fare of P45 for a single journey end-to-trip will now be P55.

The said adjustment for LRT1 comes after the DOTr conducted a public hearing on LRMC’s petition for increase.
