Justin Brownlee buries familiar dagger vs. Meralco as Ginebra goes 2-0

SAME defender, same result.

With a few seconds left in the ballgame, Brgy. Ginebra resident import Justin Brownlee turn into a GOAT mode anew and buried a step back three point shot against many time rival import Allen Durham of the Meralco Bolts to seal the game and give his team another win en route to a 104-103 nail biting victory.

Many pundits, fans and even critics recall the 2016 event dubbed as “The Shot” wherein Brownlee sank a cold blooded three just as time elapsed giving the crowd darlings their first championship after 8 years.

But for last night’s game, Brownlee rifled the long bomb with 10.1 seconds left in the game against Durham, giving Ginebra a 2-0 series lead in the race-to-three series.

Brownlee finished with 39 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

Prior to him reminding everyone who is considered as the “modern day goat” or yardstick among imports, the naturalized player saw Durham converting on seven straight points to send the Bolts to a slim 103-101 cushion with 1:22 left.

He then nailed a jumper followed by a defensive block against his rival before making another dagger three-pointer.

2021 MVP Scottie Thompson again followed up to his huge Game 1 performance with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.

Maverick Ahanmisi had 15 points, four boards, and three assists.

“Yes, it was very reminiscent of the play in 2016. It’s great, I’m glad we performed this way in front of the fans on a Saturday night,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said.

“Tonight, we jumped on the broad shoulders of Justin and we ‘ve done that many times in the past but we also have a realization that we can’t do that every night and we’ve got to be able to do better in our next game.”

And with that, Brownlee continued to be the boogeyman of the Durham and the Bolts which they had been hoping to exorcize.
